Tapping on Vibrational Energy

When we think of the process of EFT or meridian tapping, we normally think in terms of isolating emotions or core events. Our objective then is to release the emotions from the body and thereby free the person from “blocks” that hinder their enjoyment of life in one way or another.

What I am proposing is that rather than emotions or core issues, what we are ultimately dealing with is a vibrational energy field. In the case of a core issue, this vibrational energy field was put into place to serve the person in one way or another, but has since outlived its usefulness. For example, a child who had no power in a situation developed a defensive vibrational energy field - or what I call a sentinel - to protect himself or herself as a matter of survival. Now though, as an adult, the person has better strategies–physical size, wisdom, experience, etc.–and no longer needs the old defense mechanism. However, the sentinel is still there and may stand in the way of manifesting something they currently desire. The stronger the desire, the more conflict is created and the more dis-ease is created on an emotional or physical level.

This conflict is a message we are sending to ourselves that our vibrational energy is misaligned.

A traditional EFT/meridian tapping approach would isolate the core issue and relieve the various emotional aspects one by one. What I have found is that it is possible to isolate the vibrational energy field and deal with it directly-without the need to address each emotion one by one.

And this process of focusing on the vibrational energy is often easier for the client than accessing the emotions. The client is aware of the conflict, but not necessarily the emotions associated with it. In addition, often the emotions are suppressed or otherwise hidden from the client as part of the defense mechanism. The client knows they feel something, but not necessarily what it is or where it comes from.

This problem is significant, since many clients are unaware of their core events. The event happened before their earliest memory, or it was so painful that they either distorted the memory or blocked it entirely. When working with the vibrational energy field, we bypass the need to know the core issue that started it all.

Fundamental to this approach is the idea that each of us, at our core, is Source Energy and as such we are aware of all things, especially as they relate to us and our experiences. As a practitioner, the first step in the process for me is to come as close as I can to realizing myself as Source Energy, and in turn recognize the client as Source Energy. In this way, a space is created in which “healing” can occur.

The first thing I ask the client to do is to get a feeling for the conflict in terms of the energy being created. Then I ask where in the body it is located. The location in the body will tell us the general nature of the energy. The two most common locations of this energy are the stomach, representing dread, and the center of the chest near the heart, which represents a disconnection with love or Source Energy. For clues as to what other locations represent, I recommend referring to Louise Hay’s Heal Your Body.

Once we locate the vibrational energy, I ask the client to describe the energy. The first question is what shape the energy takes. Perhaps it might be a ball or geometric shape or a moving gas. If the client cannot identify a shape, I ask them to pretend the energy is clay and mold it into a shape.

The second question is what color it is. The color may indicate the emotional nature of the vibrational energy. Red could be anger and black could be hatred. I say “could be” because there is a “negotiation” between the client and practitioner in which they establish which symbols they will use to represent what is going on. Most often this “negotiation” is subconscious, but the practitioner should be aware that what works for one client may not be the same for another client. It is therefore the practitioner’s duty to “go with the flow” and let the symbolism emerge naturally.

I then ask a series of questions to help further define the nature of the vibrational energy we are dealing with. Each trait gives me important information about how to move forward with the client:

  • Is it heavy or light?
  • Does it reflect light or absorb it?
  • Does it have gravity? Does it draw things in or repel them?
  • Is it hollow or solid?
  • Does it move?

As a matter of fact, the more the client defines the vibrational energy, the more it becomes distinct from who they are. That is, it becomes a separate energy distinct from the being of light that they are, and therefore can be dealt with as separate from themselves.

Usually at this point we tap on the shape and color of the energy, as this seems to have the effect of diminishing the amount of energy in the object.

Even though I have the blue and red ball of dread in my stomach…

Once this initial round of tapping is complete, I ask if the object has changed in shape and color. Usually it has.

At this point I ask the person to place the object in one of their hands (in their imagination of course), and rotate their arm so that the object is behind their line of sight but they are still aware of its presence. I ask them to now explain how their life would be different without that vibrational energy. For most people it is obvious what it would be like; however, some people have difficulty with this question. In either case it is okay to continue to the next step.

In the next step we address the client’s often surprising attachment to his or her defensive vibrational energy field or sentinel. This attachment has three traits: appreciation, fondness, and reliance.

1) Appreciation: The vibrational energy has served a positive and useful function.

I have the client visualize the vibrational energy and ask it what its purpose is. Typically the sentinel performs the role of protector, which in some way helped the person survive an unpleasant situation. This situation can range from a way that a parent criticized to an extended period of sexual abuse. Most clients have a sense of what the protection is about.

At this point, I ask the client to thank the vibrational energy field for protecting them. Sometimes this brings on profound waves of sadness and we tap on something like:

Even though I’m sad, I never appreciated what it did for me…

2) Fondness: The client has come to accept the vibrational energy as a trusted friend.

In fact, they have trouble visualizing what their life would be without this energy being present. For them, the energy is part of who they are. By now they get the idea that the process we are undertaking has the goal of releasing this vibrational energy and they are attached to it as if it were a part of themselves. They are sad to think that it will be leaving. It is as if their best friend were leaving them.

We then tap on variations of:

Even though I am sad I am losing my valued friend…

Once the sadness disappears the final emotional stage appears.

3) Reliance: The client is afraid that without the vibrational energy they will not be able to face certain situations in life.

At this point we discuss the various strategies that the client has available now that were not available in the past. We tap on the fears that they will be unprotected, and establish new strategies.

Even though I am afraid because I don’t know how I will handle certain situations…

I give myself permission to use my wisdom…

I give myself permission to use my experiences…

I give myself permission to set boundaries…

I give myself permission to take back my power…

See my article: “Tapping to Give Yourself Permission.”

After we have tapped away all the attachments to the vibrational energy fields, I have the client ask it if it still has a purpose to serve. If the answer is yes, we have more tapping to release attachments. If it no longer serves a useful purpose, it is time to let it go.

The universe can use that energy as part of the creation process, I point out. By releasing this energy the client is allowing it to return to God to fulfill a higher purpose. I then ask the client if they can send the energy home to God.

Once released, the energy is no longer part of the client’s vibrational field.

Of course, what I have presented is a rough outline of the process. Every client is unique; therefore every application of this process is unique. The client may reveal emotions at any step of this process and the practitioner must be ready at any point to help them release these emotions as they arise.

At every step in the process I ask the client if the energy has changed in some way-shape, color, size, intensity, etc. Every time a change is made, it gives you a clue as to whether you are on the right track or new situations are arising.

It is also not uncommon for the vibrational energy fields to be layered so that one covers another. I’ve encountered as many as five, but one or two distinct layers is typical.

The advantages of this vibrational energy or sentinel tapping process are many:

  1. You don’t have to know the root cause or core issue of the problem.
  2. You don’t have to methodically work through all the different aspects of the issue.
  3. The client does not have to relive the emotions. The emotions can be dealt with as a symbolic energy construct.
  4. Weeks worth of sessions can be accomplished in a single session process.

I also want to point out that this process is for practitioners who have gained a high level of experience and proficiency. You will need to bring all of your skills to bear: your empathy, your intuition, your knowledge of the Law of Attraction, your ability to see yourself and others as Source Energy, and any other skill you uniquely bring to the table.

Excellent article. Tuning just to the vibration and treating it as a thing in and of itself is quite similar to normal EFT processes…but kind of falls into Gary Craig’s art of delivery category. There is definitely a vibration or many vibrations present in any session. Tuning into these vibrations is the true work of the therapist as well as holding open the aligned space for the client. I wonder if you can expound on how you, as the therapist, feel this work as different than EFT as you used to practice it prior to these understandings?

    Thanks Chris,

You are right, as practitioners, we all tap on the vibrational energetic fields. However, at least from my perspective, there has been a transformational shift in my state of consciousness. In this shift, I have come to see these energetic fields as existing outside the realms of the mind, emotions and body–and in the realms of light energy. To work with the client, I place myself in vibrational alignment with that which I am, Source Energy, and see that which the client is, Source Energy, and tap on the disruptive energy from that vantage point. I am exploring and will continue to explore this in more depth in my blog.
