What is the advantage of virtual reality over, say Facebook?
While social media is great for making connections, meeting new people, establishing relationships and promoting your products and services, it lacks the social interaction of a virtual reality environment. It is like the difference between talking with someone on the phone and being with them in person. For instance, you can dance with a person in virtual reality, whereas you cannot in social media as it currently exists.
Like Real Life (or RL as it is known in Second Life), you have a body with sight and hearing. You have all of your emotions, beliefs and desires. Although some people refer to Second Life (SL) as a game, it is not. Behind every avatar or character is a real person with emotions and beliefs just like you.
You form friendships and relationships just like in RL. You choose what you want to do, where you want to go, what you want to experience, and who you want to experience it with. Second life has an economy and, if you so chose, you can run your own business. In fact, some people have a job in SL that pays their RL expenses.
In other words, you have a second life.
What people do in SL is as varied as the participants. All of second life is built by the people who live there. And much of it is simply spectacular. Not all people who come to second life are builders. Most people come to have fun and enjoy what others have built. I learned to build early on and built all the facilities and landscape in the meditation center.
What is Second Life anyway?
