Dear %$firstname$%,

It's the fifth Thursday. Wildcard day! What are we going to do with it?
Well... not look at art. Not talk about art. We're going to do what artists do - use our senses!

Taste

We took our daughter to the airport yesterday for a two-week trip across the country. For her, a great adventure. For us, rehearsal for her going away to college next month.

My husband and son went elsewhere for dinner, so I found an avocado and tomato for a sandwich. Hmm. Just for me? Almost everything a mom does in the kitchen is multiplied by at least the number of people who are home.

Now, I've seen people who go into the kitchen and make a meal, and it never occurs to them to multiply it for others. That is unfathomable to a mom. But here I was, cutting into a delicious avocado and tomato just for me.

Well, that tasted amazing. A meal unmultiplied.

Touch

Have you noticed that the butterflies are back? When Minda and I were kids in Wisconsin, butterflies were common. My mom says that when she was a girl, there were so many kinds of butterflies that almost every kid had a butterfly collection. When the butterfly population dwindled she felt guilty about that.

For a long time we've really only seen the Monarch butterfly around here. But this year, I'm seeing many kinds. Everywhere I look they are dancing above the gardens with their fluttery, light touch.

Here are two of the butterflies that visited our garden this week.

From Minda:

Sight

At this beautiful mid-summer moment, I feel perfectly poised between green and green: leaves, bushes, grass. One of my favorite places to be.

Do you find the green of nature compelling?

Let's dive into green - visualize fully enjoying this green. Perhaps all together we will contribute to the greening of the Earth!

Picture a space with your favorite green. Perhaps you will imagine an enormous pile of fresh garden peas. Or the grassy field behind your elementary school. Or a magnified maple leaf that’s as big as a wall. Or you’re lying down staring at an inch of moss.

Whatever it is, imagine touching it. What does it feel like? Slick? Prickly? Do the peas tumble down all around you? Do your fingers get stained with green?

Is there any particular smell in this space of green? Is the air humid or dry? Cool or hot?

How do you feel? Are you alone? Do you want to add a friend? How about a soft blanket to sit on. Now how do you feel?

Consciously create a gentle, safe haven. Add something that makes this place more special to you.

Add the sounds of birds.

After admiring the creation you have made, decide you can return here another time, to give yourself a precious moment of summer any time of year and recharge your batteries.

Acknowledge the moment, speak a thought out loud in your mental visual space, and bid it farewell. Then return to your day and tasks.

I love that we can create things which support us, starting in our imagination.

Thanks for taking a creative moment to explore your inner sanctuary!

I’ll see you next week in the channeling blog! Let me know if you have any cool green experiences in the meantime!

Smell

The aroma of quiche! This is my easy, trusty recipe I often make for friends or potlucks. Maybe you'll enjoy it too!

Easy Cheesy Veggie Quiche

1 deep dish pie crust 9"
1 small broccoli (raw), chopped - and/or mushrooms, onion, tomato
1 c shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, Swiss, or mixed)
5 eggs
Approx. 3/4 c milk (not skim)
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
Place pie shell on a cookie sheet.
Load the veggies into it.
Spread shredded cheese on top.
In a bowl, whip eggs and milk until frothy.
Stir in salt & pepper.
Pour whipped mixture over veggies & cheese to fill shell.
Spoon egg mixture over any dry veggies.
Bake 40 minutes or until brown.
Poke with knife to test that it's not too liquidy.
Cool 10 minutes, cut & serve.
Leftovers are delicious too!

Hearing

Last but not least, listen to a video of comedian Jim Carrey candidly sharing his spiritual quest from the heart. (4:34)

See you next week with new artwork and the question, "Do I need to know my mission?"

With love,
