8. The Magic Card

I have learned to value little goals and little successes.

* * *

If you want to improve your life, it helps to have a picture of the life you want. In Rules for Renegades, Christine Comaford-Lynch suggests writing goals for each area of your life on 3x5" cards. Write them in the present tense, describing the feeling of the goal achieved.

One of my cards says, "Our finances are cheerful and empowered." Shouldn't a goal be more precise? Maybe so, if not for my human psychology. When I compare the resistance and "tail-enders," as Gary Craig calls them, that my mind will put up against a more precise goal, to the good vibration and clear image of this simple, uplifting statement, I know which one will bring beautiful results into my life sooner.

Put the cards into an envelope and read them twice a day, immersing yourself in the wonderful feeling of this whole picture fulfilled in your life. Pay attention: As you contemplate gently upon this picture, ideas that will help to bring your goals closer will float into your mind "like a cat on silent feet," as Paul Twitchell would say.

Make your cards delicious to read, and keep them private. I love reading my envelope of cards.

But I noticed something. The life change I most wanted and needed to make was the one I least believed. Yes, I had been using EFT on the issue, but it was deep-seated and would take more time. So I tried an idea. I set aside my envelope for awhile and wrote one card only.

Amusingly, I had to rewrite and rewrite the card to make the goal - or maybe wish - small enough so I could believe it. By the time I got it right, it was the tiniest baby step - a half-step beyond my current situation. But I could believe it. And when I did, the boulder moved.

The half-step came true within a couple of days. So I rewrote the card for another half-step. The boulder moved again. Soon I was reading my card several times a day, because it was so fun and exciting to know that this secret, tiny powerhouse was on the move.

I call it my Magic Card. Anything I write on it seems to come true, as long as it is teeny-tiny enough. And that's good enough for me, because by now it has moved mountains.

Remember to include on your card the feeling - the relief - of the wish fulfilled. Also include the spiritual purpose or gift.

"I feel __(what kind of relief)__ now that __(image of wish fulfilled)__ and __(spiritual gift)__."

"I feel so free and productive now that the top of my file cabinet is clear and I can better focus on each project with love."

"I feel deeply at peace now that I am doing ten sit-ups a day and love taking care of my own well-being."

"I feel honored and centered now that I have two paying clients and my service truly helps them."

When the little goal is in sight and inevitable, move the bar a bit. Just change the middle part of the statement.

"I feel so free and productive now that the first half-drawer of my file cabinet is sorted and I can better focus on each project with love."

"I feel deeply at peace now that I am visualizing my vibrant health for three minutes a day and love taking care of my own well-being."

"I feel honored and centered now that I have three paying clients and my service truly helps them."
