4. The Sliding Glass DoorI'm not talking about the big negative stuff: If it feels like furniture installed in your brain ("I can't dance") or a torrent going through ("She is driving me crazy"), then, by all means, use EFT on that. I mean those little, almost unnoticeable one-time downers like, "She should wash her hair," and the accompanying superior feeling that "I'm better than that." Or, "Oh dang, I'm going to make a bad impression coming in late." (A purely hypothetical example.) The Sliding Glass Door exercise will help you with the tricky task of cleaning those thoughts up. Your thoughts affect the vibration you are giving out to the Universe. And your vibration affects what you manifest in your life. So you don't want to put bad stuff out there, but sometimes it's hard to catch those thoughts. And when you do, now you're invested in them and it's hard to get free. Practice this exercise consciously for five or ten minutes to get the hang of it. Then you can do it on the fly whenever needed. It has two parts, but most of the time you will just use Part 1. Part 1 If you have a thought that isn't what you want, in your imagination see it as a scene (a nondescript one is fine) just outside an open sliding glass door. One "you" is stuck to that thought, but the real you, a clean you, will now take a big step backwards, inside the open glass door. Then, quickly and firmly slide the glass door shut between you and the thought. Feel and hear the SWISH-THUD as the sliding glass door closes with finality. The glass door protects you from the negative thought, so you can view it with detachment. It's done; you can move on. No need for an excuse. Part 1 works well on its own, which is perfect when you're in a hurry. Let me emphasize how quick this whole thing takes place. Boom-boom. The thought-the door. Practice it a few times. Part 2 trains your mind to serve you better. Use it when you have more time to renovate your vibration - or when you're stuck in a situation where the thought is going to recur. Part 2 This time, slam the door, but don't move on. Instead, look through the glass at the scene and trace on your side of the glass the positive parts that you can find. If you get creative, you'll find all kinds of positivity to trace. Let's give it a try. I notice the woman's unwashed hair. I step back and quickly slam the sliding glass door. Now for my vibration renovation. Just like picking strawberries, I hand-select juicy, nice things to notice. "I like that woman's dedication. She showed up to do her part. Her relaxed rules about hair give me more freedom from my rules. I like being around people who aren't trying to be perfect." Let's try it again. I think I'm going to make a bad impression coming in late to a meeting. Step back, slam door. "I love those people for who they are, and that feeling will come across. I'm brave for facing my fears and going in. How nice that I already knew the directions to the room. Thank you, Universe, for that glimpse in the mirror so I could see that my skirt was crooked. I love life, and I accept this moment. " Never do you fight the negative thought. It can just go on if it wants, there on the other side of the sliding glass door. Just like the rain and the storms, it isn't going to touch you. The tracing and retracing of better thoughts trains and opens pathways in the mind that will, sooner than later, change your state of consciousness. Or, you might say, make you a brighter light. Final note It's okay to have negative thoughts. This technique is meant to be used when you are sick of them.
