| Your irises map the strengths and
weaknesses of every facet of your body. They warn you of potential problems so you
can meet your body's needs.
Iridology is the science of looking at the structure of the exterior of the eye as a tool
of health assessment. An iridologist does not diagnose any disease or medical condition.
Rather he/she looks at the genetic strengths and weaknesses of the individual's tissues,
glands and organs. In addition, he/she looks for toxic accumulations. Through studying the
precise markings and irregularities of your eye, the iridologist gains a remarkably clear
and well-defined understanding of the state of the client's health.
Iridology is thousands of years old, originating in the Tigris and Euphrates Valley, the
area that is now Bagdad. In modern times, it re-emerged in the 1800's. The most significant
gains in the scientific knowledge base of iridology in recent history were made during WWII..
Two German doctors, Joseph Deck and Joseph Angerer, were captured by the Russians and put
to work on the front lines to treat the wounded. These doctors would examine the incoming
wounded using iridology and, if the patient died, would conduct an autopsy. They compared
their records of the patient's iris signs to the internal conditions within the body. These
two doctors documented over 5000 case studies that serve as the basis for the iris charts
currently used today.
As the work of Drs. Angerer and Deck focused mainly on men in the prime of their lives,
researchers today continue the study on older men and women with degenerative diseases,
before and after they die. More commonly, however, contemporary iridology researchers use
high-powered camera-microscopes, called Tri-iriscopes, to photograph people's iris
structures and compare them with their medically diagnosed conditions. These studies
typically target certain organs or disease states, for instance, diseases of the bowel or
pancreas. The best circumstance is when an iridologist is an M.D. or works with one.
In Eastern Europe, iridology is practiced by medical doctors, whereas in the Americas,
Australia, England and other parts of the world, the field is more often practiced
within the alternative health field. Although the basics of iridology can be learned
from a "how to" book or workshop, it is best to find a trained professional. I have a
Master Iridologist degree from Trinity College of Natural Health, a Diploma from the
International Institute of Iridology, and am a member in good standing of the American
College of Iridology. I am currently working on the staff of the International Journal
of Iridology and Integrative Health and the International College of Iridology Newsletter.
